Destination Earth: Chapter 17: Smells Unseen

Gohan said nothing as he followed the Saiyan prince into the foggy, dank unknown. It seemed like they were walking for hours and covering a distance unknown. Vegeta seemed drawn to something as his course never wavered and his stride revealed purpose. Looking about, Gohan saw nothing. Listening, Gohan heard nothing aside from the hissing of hot springs and the soft crunch of their steps. Smelling, Gohan could smell nothing other than the sulfurous stench of volcanic activity. So what was it Vegeta was drawn to and how did he know? Gohan sought one other sense...his ability to read ki, but was he seeking Veleet's or some new threat unknown? He could read nothing. With an inward sigh of frustration, Gohan felt compltely helpless and entirely dependent upon Vegeta. It was not something he felt comfortable with at all.

Elsewhere...

Veleet snapped awake from her nap. A sudden sense of urgency enveloped her mind. She immediately began sifting through all her senses, trying to pick up upon this instinct telling her of danger. She couldn't help but feel as though she were being watched or followed. But that was impossible wasn't it? If someone was following her, she'd know it by now. Her ship's scanners were on at all times, scanning the surface and the atmosphere. They were the latest technology, stolen from some of Frieza's old henchmen who had in turn, stolen it from some advanced species before sending them to extinction. Though none of her senses or her ship's scanners detected anything, she remained on high alert, cautious, and edgy.

Back on Earth...

Trunks found a secluded area and landed with Goten in tow. He concentrated on Videl's ki. She was flying and headed their way, but it would be a while before she even came close. With an evil snicker, Trunks plopped himself down and opened the diary.

"Trunks, it isn't nice to snoop into other people's business." Goten warned.

"Videl's not an other person. She's your brother's girlfriend. So, she's family. It's okay with family."

"Oh, if it's okay then." Goten said as he pluncked down beside his best friend.

"Let's read the latest first. Then we'll see if she put any juicy stuff in here."

"Wouldn't it be sticky if it's got juice in it?"

"Goten, you're really stupid sometimes, you know that?"

Goten said nothing, but gave his friend a blank stare.

Trunks sighed. "Nevermind." He thumbed through the entries until he reached a blank page, then pushed the pages backward until he found the last written one. "Ah! Here it is. It was written just yesterday!"

"Lemme see, lemme see!" Goten said as he shoved closer so he could read. He suddenly frowned.

"Trunks, I can't read this type writing. It's all smeared together."

"It's called cursive writing Goten. You're so uneducated."

"Am not!"

"Are so. I can read this easily."

"Then read it to me."

"Here goes. Dear Diary, what is it that makes men do what they do? Ick, this may be mushy Goten..."

"So, just read."

"Men do stupid things without a thought as to who they hurt as long as they get to do what they want. I thought Gohan was different...Oh Goten, this one has something about your brother in it."

"Then read it already."

"I thought Gohan used his brain and his intelligence. He seemed in control of everything. How could I have known he'd let his little brain do the talking just like any typical male."

"What little brain Trunks?"

"How should I know?"

"I thought you said you knew everything."

"I do."

"Then what's a little brain?"

"Uhhhh, maybe it's a part of the bigger brain. Just shush and let me continue."

"Oh, okay then."

"I'm not sure how I feel about this whole thing. I'm furiously upset, but at the same time, I know I can't stay that way. There's just something about Gohan that prevents me from staying mad at him. I miss him so much. I wish he'd hurry up and return. And if Vegeta does anything to him, I will personally make sure his life is unpleasant forever. And if you do Videl, I will make sure yours is too. Nobody messes with my dad!"

"Videl's going to attack Vegeta, Trunks?"

"I don't know, but if she does, I will attack her."

"But my brother said it's not nice to hit girls."

"If they hit first, the rule is cancelled."

"Oh. So there anything more?"

"Nope, she just ended it there. Maybe we should go backwa---" Trunks trailed as he suddenly looked skyward. "Shit, she's faster than I thought. We need to hide. She's almost here."

"Trunks, this isn't all that fun anymore. I feel like we're being mean to Videl."

"You're just a sissy, that's all."

"I am NOT a sissy Trunks!"

"Are too."

"Am not. Take that back Trunks!"

"Never. Can't take back what's true."

Goten launched at Trunks, knocking him to the ground as the two began yet another playful fight. Both were so focused on each other that they forgot about Videl approaching. Overhead, she noticed the two boys busy knocking the crap out of each other. Her diary was off to the side, unwatched. She immediately flew down and grabbed it.

"This is mine and you two are so dead!"

Trunks and Goten halted mid-punch. "Eeeeeehhh!" was all Trunks and Goten could say as Videl grabbed them by the earlobes and yanked hard.

"Don't think I haven't learned from your mothers." Videl said as she managed to pull them downward until their faces were compacted with the ground. She then pinned the two to the ground by sitting atop both of their backs, yanked their pants towards their feet and spanked them both hard.

Goten squealed and began to cry as Trunks began to yell and squirm. When all was over, Videl allowed the two boys to get up and pull up their pants. Goten continued to cry and rub his sore butt. But Trunks was another story.

"Didn't hurt." he muttered as he got a safe distance away from her and pouted.

"I don't care if it hurt or not. You two got what you deserved. And I'm sure your mothers will have more when you get back." Videl said as she grabbed her diary once again and flew off, leaving the two boys to their own demise.

Back in the swampy woodlands...

Gohan was growing impatient. He was tired of blindly following Vegeta without any reasons. He halted and refused to continue. Vegeta walked a few more steps before realizing that there were no other steps following him. He stopped.

"What's your problem?" he snapped sternly, but quietly.

"I want to know what we're doing?"

Vegeta growled lowly. "Pathetic boy. It's called tracking. She's here, not far now."

Suddenly it all clicked for Gohan. Vegeta had indeed done the seemingly impossible. He had tracked down Veleet! With a new sense of discomfort, Gohan gulped and reluctantly followed the saiyan prince as he continued on his hunt.
